Donald Trump Speculates on GOP’s Motivation Behind Biden Impeachment Inquiry

In a recent interview with former TV host Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM radio, former President Donald Trump discussed the ongoing Biden impeachment inquiry and speculated about the motivations behind it.

Revenge as a Motive

Trump believes that House Republicans initiated the Biden impeachment inquiry as an act of revenge against him. He stated, “They did it to me. And had they not done it to me, I think, and nobody officially said this, but I think had they not done it to me … perhaps you wouldn’t have it being done to them.”

This sentiment is rooted in the fact that Democrats led two impeachment charges against Trump during his presidency. The first charge accused him of abusing his power and obstructing congressional investigations, while the second related to “incitement of insurrection” following the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions.

Impeachment Over Allegations of Bribery and Corruption

On Tuesday, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, citing allegations of bribery and corruption. Some Republicans have expressed concerns about the lack of concrete evidence linking Biden to financial transactions involving his son Hunter and Ukraine and China.

Warning of Future Indictments

Trump warned that the current trend of using impeachment and legal challenges as political tools could continue. He even suggested that future Republican-led administrations might use indictments for political purposes, mirroring his own legal challenges.

He stated, “This is going to happen with indictments, too. They’re fake indictments. And I think you’re going to see that as time goes by, you’re going to see Republicans when they’re in power, doing it. And it’s a shame when that happens. I’m not in favor of that, but that’s what’s going to happen because that’s human nature.”

This interview with Megyn Kelly marks their first public discussion since their heated exchange during a Republican presidential debate in 2016, which initiated a long-lasting feud between them.
