Democratic Congressman Dean Phillips: Hunter Biden Guilty of Unethical Behavior, Joe Biden Not

In the wake of Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s announcement directing the House to open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, Democratic Representative Dean Phillips of Minnesota is placing blame on Hunter Biden while backing President Biden.

Phillips took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to express his views on the matter. He stated, “The evidence suggests Hunter Biden is guilty of unethical and/or illegal behavior. The evidence suggests Joe Biden is guilty of absolutely nothing more than being a father.”

Phillips’ comments indicate that some Democrats are not inclined to defend Hunter Biden even as they support the President. McCarthy declared his intention to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden without holding a floor vote.

Phillips, a moderate Democrat, had discussions with donors in July about a possible primary run against Joe Biden. However, last month he stated that he had not yet decided whether to launch such a bid.

The level of support for McCarthy’s impeachment inquiry remains uncertain, primarily due to centrist Democrats who are skeptical about whether the GOP has uncovered enough evidence to proceed with an impeachment vote. No direct link has emerged between Joe Biden and Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings.

House GOP investigations have revealed that Hunter Biden traded on his family name during his business ventures. However, the party has struggled to find substantial evidence of wrongdoing by Joe Biden or that his actions as vice president or president were influenced by his family members.

A recent CNN poll indicated that 55 percent of Americans surveyed believe the President was involved in his son’s business dealings with Ukraine and China during his tenure as vice president. This perception includes one-third of Democrats surveyed.
