Senator John Kennedy sharply criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for allegedly funding Syrian forces fighting US-backed Kurdish troops in Northeast Syria.
Speaking forcefully, Kennedy declared:
“President Erdogan: You hate the Kurds, but leave them alone. Kurds are a distinctive people and they are the friends of America… If you harm a hair on their head, I will ask this Congress to do something, and sanctions will not help you.”
Kennedy also accused Erdogan of preparing for an invasion of Syria, warning against any aggression. He emphasized the peaceful nature of the Kurdish people and their alliance with the United States, urging Erdogan to halt hostilities.
The remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region, where Kurdish forces have played a pivotal role in combating ISIS with US support.
