Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her confidence that the United States is ready to elect a female president, hoping it will be a Republican. Speaking at the Republican National Convention, Sanders, who served as former President Donald Trump’s press secretary, shared her views in a conversation with POLITICO.

A Republican Female President

Sanders is optimistic about the potential for a woman to take on the role of president. “I certainly hope that the first female president is a Republican and I think there is a long list of people that are capable and could certainly take that on,” she stated. Sanders, often mentioned as a potential GOP contender for the presidency in 2028, highlighted the growing desire for female leadership in the highest office. “I do think there is a great desire for a female to serve in that role,” she continued. “When and who that is certainly is yet to be seen. I think our country is ready for that and would be supportive of it.”

Commitment to Arkansas

When asked if she would work for Trump again if he were re-elected, Sanders made it clear that her focus is on her current role and family life in Arkansas. “My family is settled in Arkansas, and I am focused on running for reelection in 2026,” she said. As a mother of three young children, Sanders often discusses the challenges posed by social media and technology for children, emphasizing her commitment to her family’s well-being.

A Humorous Anecdote with Trump and Kim Jong-Un

Sanders recounted a memorable and humorous story involving Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un during a high-stakes summit in 2019. She described an incident where Jong-Un gave her a “little nod and a wink,” making her initially think she had “just been marked for death.” The story took a lighter turn as she shared the reaction from Trump and former Chief of Staff John Kelly, who found the situation amusing. “I’m thinking, ‘I’m glad that my complete and total demise is so funny to the two of you,’” Sanders said, recalling her thoughts at the time. Trump jokingly reassured her, saying, “Sarah, he wasn’t marking you for death. I’m pretty sure he was hitting on you.” He continued the joke by saying, “Sarah, your family’s really going to miss you, but you get to be a hero to the entire country. You’re going to love North Korea.”
