According to an announcement made by Kyiv’s Air Force on Sunday via the Telegram messaging app, Russia initiated drone and missile assaults targeting civilian and critical infrastructure over extensive regions of Ukraine. Initial reports from the air force did not indicate any casualties resulting from these attacks.
Both Russia and Ukraine have escalated their aerial operations against each other’s territories in recent months, concentrating on pivotal military, energy, and transportation facilities. The air force specified that Russia deployed two ballistic missiles from the Iskander ballistic missile system in an assault on the central Poltava region, alongside three surface-to-air missiles launched over the Donetsk region in the eastern part of Ukraine.
Filip Pronin, the governor of the Poltava region, conveyed via Telegram that the attack impacted an industrial site situated in the city of Kremenchuk, prompting a subsequent fire. Visual evidence circulated on social media depicted emergency response teams engaged in combatting the blaze.
Further southeast, in the Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Yuri Malashko reported an infrastructure facility being targeted in a drone strike. Although emergency teams were dispatched to the site, Malashko refrained from providing specific details regarding the extent of damage or any resulting casualties.
The Ukrainian air defense systems purportedly intercepted and neutralized four out of eight drones launched by Russia overnight, as affirmed by the air force. However, Reuters could not independently verify these accounts, and there has been no immediate response from Russian authorities regarding the reported incidents.
