An expert in Parkinson’s disease from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Dr. Kevin Cannard, has visited the White House eight times in eight months, raising questions about President Biden’s health. According to official visitor logs, Dr. Cannard, a neurologist specializing in movement disorders, had at least one meeting with President Biden’s physician. The White House clarified that President Biden had met with a neurologist only three times during his presidency, and there is no indication that he is being treated for Parkinson’s.
Dr. Cannard’s visits spanned from July 2023 to March 2024. His LinkedIn profile indicates over a decade of support for the White House Medical Unit. Records from the Obama administration show frequent visits by Dr. Cannard when Biden was vice president. However, the purpose of his recent visits remains unclear.
White House spokesman Andrew Bates stated that specialists from Walter Reed routinely visit the White House to treat military personnel. Bates also emphasized that President Biden undergoes annual physical exams, which include neurological assessments, and no signs of Parkinson’s have been detected.
Speculation about President Biden’s health intensified after a June debate performance against Donald Trump, where some observed symptoms that could suggest Parkinson’s or a related condition. Despite this, Bates reaffirmed that there is no need for further neurological evaluation since the February checkup.
In recent interviews, Biden addressed his health, attributing the debate issues to a minor ailment and insisting that the demands of the presidency serve as a daily cognitive test. He declined to undergo an independent neurological exam, emphasizing that his public activities demonstrate his fitness.
The visitor logs, detailing Dr. Cannard’s visits, showed consistent early morning meetings mostly on Fridays, suggesting routine consultations rather than emergency assessments. Dr. Cannard’s recent research on Parkinson’s adds context to his expertise, yet it does not confirm that he was evaluating the president for this condition.
As President Biden seeks re-election, his health remains a focal point of public interest. The White House maintains transparency through the release of visitor logs and regular medical updates, aiming to address concerns while ensuring privacy.
