Iran and Russia Voice Support for Syria Amid Rebel Offensive
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed their support for Syria on Saturday as rebel groups launched a major offensive in Aleppo and Idlib provinces.
In a phone call, Araqchi claimed that the attacks were part of an Israeli-U.S. strategy to destabilize the region, according to Iranian state media. Lavrov and Araqchi expressed serious concern over the escalation, labeling the offensive a “dangerous situation” and calling for joint efforts to stabilize Syria.
Russian and Turkish Coordination
Earlier in the day, Lavrov also discussed the situation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Both countries, which have stakes in the Syrian conflict, emphasized the importance of coordinated actions to address the renewed violence.
Commitment to Stabilization
The Iranian and Russian ministers’ discussions underscored their shared commitment to assisting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in countering the insurgent threat. Both nations pledged to intensify efforts to restore stability amid what they described as a significant terrorist escalation in the region.
