House Republicans Subpoena Hunter and James Biden in Impeachment Inquiry

In a significant development, House Republicans have issued subpoenas demanding testimony from Hunter and James Biden, President Biden’s son and brother, as part of their ongoing impeachment inquiry. The subpoenas were authorized by Representative James R. Comer, chairman of the Oversight Committee, who aims to find evidence supporting allegations of bribery and corruption against the president.

Republicans have been investigating claims that President Biden corruptly profited from his family’s overseas business dealings. Despite their efforts, no concrete proof of wrongdoing has been presented so far. The subpoenas require James Biden to appear for a deposition on December 6 and Hunter Biden a week later. Additionally, their business associate, Rob Walker, was summoned to appear on November 29.

The Biden administration swiftly dismissed the subpoenas, labeling the Republican inquiry as a “wild goose chase” intended to tarnish the president’s image ahead of the 2024 election.

Previously, Representative Comer had issued subpoenas for the bank records of James and Hunter Biden and their associates, obtaining thousands of documents. Republicans released copies of checks showing payments from James Biden and his wife to President Biden, but these were explained as reimbursements for personal loans, not evidence of corruption.

Comer has also demanded interviews with other Biden family members and associates, sparking a strong response from Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, who urged Speaker Mike Johnson to end the partisan political investigation.

Speaker Johnson, initially resistant to the impeachment inquiry, has become a supporter of the investigation, emphasizing the importance of due process and following the law.
