Pence Dismisses Claims of FBI Involvement in Jan. 6 Insurrection
Former Vice President Mike Pence has rejected the conspiracy theories popularized by Donald Trump and his supporters that the FBI was involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection. In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Pence stated, “I’ve heard the many repeated assurances from the FBI that they were not involved, and I take them at their word.” Pence expressed gratitude for the FBI’s efforts in investigating and prosecuting those involved in the Capitol attack.
Trump’s Claims of FBI and Antifa Involvement
Donald Trump has perpetuated conspiracy theories around Jan. 6, alleging that Antifa and the FBI were “leading the charge” during the riot. Trump has described those imprisoned for their involvement as “hostages.” Rep. Elise Stefanik echoed similar sentiments on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” These claims are part of Trump’s narrative as he seeks to reclaim the White House.
Pence’s Gratitude for FBI’s Efforts
Having been in the Capitol during the attack and facing threats, Pence expressed gratitude for the FBI’s commitment to bringing nearly a thousand people to justice for their role in the Jan. 6 riot. He emphasized the FBI director’s assurances that the agency was not responsible for instigating the violence.
Call for Accountability and Legal Consequences
Pence stressed the importance of holding everyone involved in the Capitol riot accountable to the fullest extent of the law. He acknowledged that many individuals have faced legal consequences for their actions during the attack.
