Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejects U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s push for a quick peace deal with Russia, stating that a rushed resolution could harm Ukraine’s independence and security. Zelenskyy emphasizes the need for a “fair” end to the war.
Zelenskyy Rejects Trump’s Proposal for Rapid Peace Deal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed reservations over U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s push for a swift peace agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Speaking in Budapest, Zelenskyy stated that a rushed deal could lead to losses for Ukraine, arguing that any agreement must prioritize Ukraine’s security and independence.
Trump’s 24-Hour Peace Deal Promise
Trump, who was recently re-elected, has previously claimed he could end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours through negotiations with both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Zelenskyy believes that such a rapid approach might not yield a sustainable outcome and could jeopardize Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Zelenskyy’s Call for a Fair Resolution
Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s desire for a “fair” and lasting resolution to the conflict. He cautioned that a rushed peace agreement could repeat past mistakes, citing the 2014 ceasefire with Russia, which ultimately led to the loss of Crimea and further aggression from Moscow.
Concerns Over North Korea’s Involvement
In addition to his stance on the peace process, Zelenskyy warned about potential North Korean troop deployments in support of Russia. He urged Western allies to increase diplomatic pressure on North Korea, suggesting that inaction could lead to further escalation with additional North Korean forces joining the conflict.
