Vice President Kamala Harris is set to announce a series of measures aimed at curbing the risks associated with artificial intelligence (A.I.) during her visit to London. These steps are aligned with a recent executive order signed by President Biden and are designed to establish guidelines for the responsible development and use of A.I. technologies. The measures include a draft policy from the Office of Management and Budget outlining how federal agencies will use A.I., overseen by new chief A.I. officers. Additionally, Harris will unveil a “political declaration” joined by 30 nations, seeking to establish norms for the responsible deployment of military A.I. capabilities. The announcement also includes $200 million in philanthropic funding to support these initiatives. Emphasizing consumer protection, Harris will address concerns related to biases, discrimination, and misinformation in A.I. systems. These efforts precede a global summit in London, where leaders, including tech figures like Elon Musk, will discuss the future of A.I.
