Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Rep. Jim Jordan to become the next Speaker of the House. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump praised Jordan’s political record and college wrestling achievements, stating, “He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Trump’s Endorsement

The news of Trump’s endorsement was initially reported by Fox News’ Sean Hannity and confirmed by Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), who revealed that Trump had conveyed his support for Jordan during a phone call.

Potential Speaker Race

Trump’s endorsement of Jordan could provide clarity in what is expected to be a tumultuous race for the speakership following Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s removal earlier this week.

Jordan, known for his close alliance with Trump and his role as one of the leading GOP lawmakers investigating President Joe Biden, would represent a deeply conservative choice for Speaker.

Jordan’s Credentials

As the co-founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus and Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan has a track record of defending Trump, notably during his two impeachment trials. Trump awarded Jordan the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his presidency.

Trump’s Interest in Speaker Role

Before endorsing Jordan, Trump had hinted at a visit to Capitol Hill and expressed interest in serving as an interim Speaker of the House. He stated that he would consider taking on the role temporarily if needed, emphasizing his commitment to his 2024 presidential run.

Rallying GOP Support

Should Trump visit Capitol Hill, his aim would be to “rally the troops” and provide leadership to a party still reeling from McCarthy’s ouster. He would encourage Republican lawmakers to swiftly select their next Speaker to avoid prolonged internal disputes.

While some House GOP allies like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene had publicly floated Trump as a potential Speaker, Trump’s focus remains on his presidential aspirations.
