In a recent Fox News interview, former President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of supporting a 15-week limit on abortion, though he emphasized that he has not made a definitive decision. Trump, who is on track for the GOP presidential nomination, has been cautious about specifying his stance on abortion policies throughout his campaign.

During the interview at the Southern border, Trump mentioned hearing discussions about a post-15-week abortion ban and acknowledged the ongoing debate. He stated, “More and more, I’m hearing 15 weeks, and I haven’t decided yet. Also, we got it back to the states where it belongs.” Trump emphasized the importance of resolving what he called a “very polarizing” issue and expressed a desire for a settlement that would satisfy everyone.

Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022, Trump has claimed credit for the Supreme Court’s decision, seen as a win for anti-abortion rights conservatives. However, he has also attributed Republican losses in the midterm elections to the abortion issue.

The campaign spokesperson for Trump did not provide specific details on Trump’s position regarding a 15-week limit but underscored his “unmatched pro-life record.” The spokesperson highlighted Trump’s advice to fellow Republicans to address the abortion issue effectively and emphasized that Democrats, not Republicans, are extreme on abortion.

Trump also criticized the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision against in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures in the state, describing it as “harsh.” He expressed his full support for IVF, showcasing a nuanced approach to reproductive issues.

As Democrats focus on broadening abortion access, Trump’s tentative stance on a 15-week limit adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing national conversation on reproductive rights. The midterm elections saw Democrats overperforming expectations by campaigning on the issue, and Trump’s evolving position could influence the discourse surrounding abortion in the upcoming presidential race.
