Former President Donald Trump and key figures in his inner circle are reportedly cautioning down-ballot Republican candidates against hiring Republican strategist Jeff Roe and his consulting firm, Axiom. This move is seen as an act of political retribution for Roe’s involvement in electing Ron DeSantis. The admonition is aimed at disrupting revenue streams for Axiom, and candidates have been warned that hiring Roe might create political challenges with the Trump team.

Attempt to Stifle Revenue and Enforce Loyalty

The attempt to isolate Jeff Roe underscores the lengths to which Trump is willing to go to enforce loyalty and penalize perceived disloyalty within the GOP. Trump closely monitors endorsements, expressions of support, and allegiance during challenging periods from elected officials.

Roe’s Background and Trump’s Reaction

Jeff Roe served as a top strategist for the DeSantis super PAC, Never Back Down, but resigned in mid-December amid reports of internal conflicts. Trump has been openly critical of Roe, with a post on Truth Social declaring, “Jeff Roe is out — GAME OVER for DeSanctimonious.” Senior Trump adviser Chris LaCivita has also publicly attacked Roe on social media, emphasizing the need for him to stay away from the U.S. Senate.

Candidates Warned of Consequences

Candidates have reportedly been informed that hiring Axiom or Jeff Roe could lead to political repercussions, with suggestions that it could affect their standing with President Trump. The message is clear: avoiding ties with Axiom is considered crucial to staying in Trump’s favor, with the implied threat of Trump endorsing opponents in primaries.

Axiom’s Response and Trump’s Strategy

Axiom Strategies president Rob Phillips defended the firm, stating that Axiom has elected more conservatives than any other firm in the nation. Despite Trump’s criticism, Axiom remains a significant force in Republican political consulting, working for numerous candidates across the country. The Trump War Room X Twitter account has also targeted other senior Axiom employees, revealing a broader effort to discredit the firm.

Implications for GOP Candidates

The Trump camp’s decision to target Jeff Roe and Axiom carries weight, as candidates fear that a Trump endorsement for their opponent could significantly impact their chances in primaries. The attempt to stifle revenue for Axiom reflects Trump’s commitment to consolidating influence within the GOP and maintaining loyalty.
