Milwaukee, Wisconsin – The Republican National Convention host committee announced it has raised over $85 million for the upcoming event in Milwaukee, setting a new fundraising record for a GOP convention. This surpasses their initial goal of $68 million.
Reince Priebus, chair of the MKE 2024 Host Committee, attributed the success to local organizations in Wisconsin, which played a crucial role in supporting the fundraising efforts. The committee, organized as a nonpartisan nonprofit, does not publicly disclose its donors, but previous reports mentioned contributions from Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual and Forest County Potawatomi.
This news comes as the Democratic host committee is also on track to raise between $80 million and $100 million for their convention in Chicago next month. However, Democrats are expressing concerns about fundraising for their candidate, President Joe Biden, following a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump.
Despite legal challenges, including a criminal conviction on hush money charges, Trump’s campaign has maintained strong fundraising momentum, surpassing Biden’s efforts. The upcoming Republican convention will officially nominate Donald Trump as the GOP candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
