Rep. Elise Stefanik Declines to Pledge Support for 2024 Election Results, Accuses Democrats of Election Interference

In a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Representative Elise Stefanik, the No. 4 House Republican, pre-emptively declined to commit to certifying the results of the 2024 election. Stefanik, known for her strong support of former President Donald Trump, expressed skepticism about the upcoming election, accusing Democrats of attempting to “steal the election” and engaging in illegal gerrymandering of congressional districts.

When pressed by NBC’s Kristen Welker on whether she would commit to certifying the results, Stefanik responded, “We will see if this is a legal and valid election.” She went on to claim that Democrats were desperate and attempting to remove President Trump from the ballot, characterizing such efforts as a suppression of the American people. Stefanik referred to state-level initiatives seeking to block Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment, which bars individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding office.

Stefanik defended her decision to vote against certifying the election results in Pennsylvania in 2020, citing what she perceived as unconstitutional acts in various states that circumvented state legislatures and unilaterally changed election laws. Despite numerous legal challenges, the majority of which were unsuccessful, Stefanik maintained her stance on the Pennsylvania certification vote.

While expressing a willingness to certify election results if they are deemed constitutional, Stefanik alleged that the events of the 2020 election involved an “unconstitutional circumventing of the Constitution” by not adhering to state legislatures in changing election laws. She further accused Democrats of engaging in election interference and illegal gerrymandering at both local and national levels.
