Pope Francis issued a statement condemning all forms of anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism, characterizing them as offenses against God. The pontiff conveyed this message in a letter addressed to the Jewish community of Israel, dated February 2 and publicly disclosed on Saturday.

Expressing solidarity with the Jewish population, the Pope voiced deep concern regarding the rise in attacks against Jews worldwide, expressing a desire that the pledge of “never again” would resonate with future generations.

Highlighting the global landscape marked by escalating conflicts and divisions, Pope Francis likened the prevailing state of affairs to a fragmented world war, impacting numerous communities.

The pontiff reiterated his advocacy for a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, condemning Hamas’ cross-border attack from Gaza into southern Israel on October 7. Additionally, he reiterated his call for the release of hostages held by militant groups.

Expressing sorrow over the conflict in the Holy Land and the resultant division and animosity, Pope Francis emphasized the international community’s apprehension and distress over unfolding events in the region.

Pope Francis expressed solidarity and empathy towards the Jewish community, particularly those experiencing anguish, fear, and anger. He appealed for an end to the ongoing war and reaffirmed his prayers for peace, extending his heartfelt support to all inhabitants of the Holy Land, including Israelis and Palestinians.
