Barack Obama to Launch Campaigning for Kamala Harris in Key Swing States

Former President to Rally Voters for Harris’ Presidential Bid

Former U.S. President Barack Obama will begin a series of campaign events next week in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president. His first appearance will be in Pittsburgh, where he aims to energize voters in critical swing states as the 2024 presidential election approaches.

Obama, who delivered a widely praised speech at the Democratic National Convention in August in support of Harris, has acted as an informal adviser to her since she became the Democratic Party’s nominee. This occurred after President Joe Biden stepped aside following a poor debate performance against Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Targeting Key Battleground States

In the final month before Election Day, Obama is expected to campaign extensively in major battleground states. According to a senior official from the Harris campaign, the former president’s outreach will focus on states where the margin of victory is expected to be razor-thin. His efforts are seen as crucial in galvanizing the Democratic base and ensuring strong voter turnout in these key areas.

Obama remains a popular figure within the Democratic Party, often credited with being an effective campaigner in the final stages of elections. His role in the campaign is viewed as instrumental in rallying core supporters, particularly in states where the outcome is uncertain.

Obama’s Motivation and Campaign Focus

Eric Schultz, a senior advisor to Obama, emphasized the importance of the upcoming election, stating: “President Obama believes the stakes of this election could not be more consequential. That is why he is doing everything he can to help elect Vice President Harris, Governor Walz, and Democrats across the country.”

Schultz further explained that Obama’s objectives include not only securing a Harris victory in the presidential race but also maintaining Democratic control of the U.S. Senate and regaining a majority in the House of Representatives. With voting already underway in many areas, the focus will be on persuading and mobilizing voters, particularly in states with highly competitive races.

Financial Contributions and Fundraising Success

Obama’s involvement has been a significant asset to the Harris campaign in terms of both voter outreach and fundraising. His appearances at fundraising events and in campaign ads have helped raise $76 million for Harris’ presidential bid, according to his office.

In September, Obama headlined a major fundraising event in Los Angeles, which generated $4 million for the Harris campaign. His involvement will continue with a high-profile campaign rally in Pittsburgh, marking the start of his more active participation in the final phase of the 2024 election.

Strong Endorsement from Barack and Michelle Obama

Both Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy in July, signaling their strong support for her leadership and vision. The former president’s upcoming appearances in swing states are seen as a critical factor in boosting Harris’ chances of victory as the campaign heads into its final stretch.
