Mike Pence’s Presidential Campaign Struggles Financially and in Polls

Former Vice President Mike Pence is facing major financial and polling challenges as he continues his presidential campaign. With just $1.2 million in cash on hand and over $600,000 in debt, Pence is encountering a significant uphill battle.

Financial Woes and Campaign Struggles

In the third quarter, Pence reported raising $3.3 million. However, this amount is dwarfed by the debt he’s accumulated. Adding to the complexity of his financial situation, Pence contributed $150,000 of his own money to the campaign, an unexpected move for a politician who has never been particularly wealthy. This contribution surpasses his income as Indiana governor, where he earned less than six figures.

Lack of Traction in the GOP Primary

Pence’s fundraising challenges reflect his campaign’s struggles to gain traction in the GOP primary. Additionally, there are doubts about his ability to qualify for the third debate in Miami on November 8, as his campaign has yet to confirm whether he’s secured enough donors.

A Pence ally, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the campaign’s financial woes. They described the fundraising quarter as “brutal” and expressed concern about the mounting debt, suggesting that debt-retirement fundraisers might be on the horizon.

Questions About Pence’s Campaign Future

Critics have raised questions about Pence’s future in the race. A neutral Iowa Republican operative, also speaking anonymously, compared Pence’s fundraising to that of a “medium-sized Senate race.” Some Republican insiders had even suggested that Pence consider running for Indiana’s open Senate seat in 2024 instead of pursuing the presidency, although Pence declined the offer.

Pence’s campaign has not offered any comments on these financial and campaign-related challenges.

Pence’s Criticism of GOP Contenders

In recent weeks, Pence has been openly critical of higher-polling GOP candidates. He has expressed his views on a range of issues, from foreign policy to social security, criticizing candidates like former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Campaign Appearance in New Hampshire

Pence, despite his financial and polling troubles, recently returned to New Hampshire for a campaign event attended by numerous GOP presidential hopefuls. However, while he received attention from supporters for photos, his speech was delivered to a notably smaller audience compared to his competitors.

Challenges Ahead

While Pence’s campaign is facing substantial challenges, he remains committed to his presidential bid. Despite the financial hurdles and uphill polling battle, he continues to express optimism about his future in the race.
