Lindsey Graham Pushes for Military Action Against Iran’s Nuclear Program

Senator Lindsey Graham has called for military action against Iran’s nuclear program, citing concerns about its advancement and the perceived failure of diplomacy. He urged President-elect Donald Trump to prioritize efforts to weaken Iran’s capabilities, marking a shift toward a more aggressive approach in U.S.-Iran relations.

Graham Advocates for Military Action on Iran

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has urged the incoming Trump administration to take military action against Iran’s nuclear program, describing the country as a “de facto nuclear threshold state.” Graham dismissed the efficacy of diplomacy, suggesting a 90% chance of success through military intervention compared to negligible odds through negotiation.

The State of Iran’s Nuclear Program

Graham argued that Iran’s nuclear ambitions have brought it closer to developing a nuclear weapon. Following Israel’s military campaigns in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, he claimed Tehran is in a weakened position, making this an opportune moment for action.

Historical Context and Trump’s Role

In 2018, President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal, implementing a “maximum pressure” sanctions strategy. Graham highlighted Trump’s prior policies and current influence, crediting him for his role in recent ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.

Graham’s Justification and Warnings

Labeling Iran’s regime as a “religious Nazi regime,” Graham warned of the risks of inaction, likening negotiations with Iran to appeasement policies during World War II. He emphasized that military action, particularly by Israel with U.S. support, is necessary to prevent what he described as a potential historical mistake.
