CHICAGO — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, mentioned as a potential vice presidential candidate, has clarified that he hasn’t been approached for vetting materials. During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday morning, Pritzker avoided directly addressing his interest in the vice-presidential role.

Pritzker’s Stance:

  • Commitment to Governorship: Pritzker emphasized his dedication to his current role, stating, “I love being the governor of the state of Illinois, and I’ve been out on the campaign trail fighting hard for Democrats to win.”
  • Campaign Efforts: He highlighted his campaign efforts in various states, including Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Arizona, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring Democratic victories nationwide.
  • Support for Harris: Pritzker expressed strong support for Vice President Kamala Harris, who is poised to secure the Democratic nomination following President Joe Biden’s recent withdrawal from the 2024 race. “It’s important to me that we win across the board and all across the United States. So I’m gonna continue to do that. And I’m very interested in making sure that Kamala Harris becomes the next president of the United States,” he said.

Potential Running Mates for Harris:

  • Speculated Candidates: Alongside Pritzker, other names mentioned as potential running mates for Harris include Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Governors Roy Cooper (North Carolina), Josh Shapiro (Pennsylvania), and Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan).
  • Endorsements: Pritzker, a wealthy businessman whose family founded the Hyatt hotel chain, has been actively involved in Democratic strategy discussions and endorsed Harris on Monday after extensive conversations with party insiders.

Gov. Tim Walz’s Comments:

  • On “Morning Joe”: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also appeared on the show but did not discuss his potential vetting for the VP role. Instead, he criticized Harris’ opponents, saying, “There is angst [in America]. Because robber barons like JD Vance and Donald Trump gutted the Midwest.”

As Harris prepares to announce her running mate, the Democratic Party is rallying to present a unified front, with Pritzker and others playing key roles in the broader campaign strategy.
