On Friday, Israel conducted an airstrike on an ambulance in Gaza City, asserting that it was transporting Hamas militants. The Gaza Strip’s health ministry, controlled by Hamas, contended that the ambulance was involved in evacuating injured individuals from the besieged northern region to the southern part of the territory. It was part of a convoy departing from al-Shifa Hospital, which was also targeted by Israel.

Ashraf al-Qidra, the spokesperson for the health ministry, reported a significant number of casualties, both fatalities and injuries, as a result of the attack, though specific figures were not provided. Footage circulated on social media depicted numerous deceased and wounded individuals, including women and young men in civilian attire.

Israel’s military had earlier accused Hamas of using al-Shifa Hospital to conceal command centers and tunnel entrances. They claimed that the airstrike on the ambulance resulted in the elimination of several Hamas operatives. The Israeli military further alleged that Hamas was using such vehicles to transport both personnel and weaponry. They indicated their intention to release additional information regarding the incident soon.
