In a new revelation, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has alleged that President Joe Biden received $40,000 in what he termed “laundered China money” from his brother’s bank account back in 2017. These allegations come as part of an ongoing investigation into the Biden family’s financial dealings and their connection to Chinese entities. Comer claims that these transactions expose the President to potential blackmail from Beijing.
The Allegations and Their Origins
Comer’s findings were presented in a video posted on X, where he disclosed details of the alleged financial transactions. According to him, the money was transferred to President Biden’s account via a personal check from his brother and sister-in-law. This new information contradicts previous statements made by Joe Biden, claiming that his son, Hunter Biden, did not make money from China.
Money Trail and Extortion Scheme
The alleged money trail, according to Comer, can be traced back to July 2017 when Hunter Biden demanded a $10 million payment from a Chinese energy company, CEFC. In a WhatsApp message, Hunter reportedly claimed that he was with his father and that the Biden network would turn against the Chinese associate if the payment was not made. This was followed by a $5 million payment from a Chinese affiliate of CEFC.
Comer goes on to detail a series of transactions that involved Hunter Biden, James Biden (the President’s brother), and their respective business entities. According to the findings, money flowed through various accounts, including one controlled by Hunter Biden, one owned by James Biden and his wife, Sara Biden, and eventually, a $40,000 check was issued to Joe Biden.
Consequences and Accountability
Comer claims that these financial transactions, even if deemed as loan repayments, raise questions about President Biden’s involvement in the family’s financial dealings and his potential exposure to foreign influence, particularly from China. The House Oversight Committee has vowed to continue investigating these matters and hold the President accountable for any perceived wrongdoing.
White House Response and Ongoing Debate
The White House has responded to these allegations, stating that as a private citizen, Joe Biden loaned his brother money when needed, and there is evidence to show that he was repaid. The ongoing debate surrounding these allegations has become increasingly polarized, with Comer standing by his findings and the White House dismissing them as conspiracy theories.
