Former Trump Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham Denounces Ex-President at 2024 DNC

Stephanie Grisham, former Trump Press Secretary, denounces Donald Trump at the 2024 DNC, endorsing Kamala Harris and urging Republicans to reject Trump’s leadership.

The former Trump aide criticizes her ex-boss, endorses Kamala Harris, and urges GOP voters to join her

Former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham delivered a powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on August 20, 2024, openly criticizing her former boss, Donald Trump. Grisham’s remarks mark a significant shift from her previous role as a staunch supporter of the ex-president, as she now endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming election.

Grisham’s Transition from Trump Supporter to Harris Endorser

Grisham, who served as Trump’s press secretary from July 2019 to April 2020, took to the stage at the United Center in Chicago to recount her disillusionment with Trump and his administration. “I wasn’t just a Trump supporter; I was a true believer,” she admitted, sharing her close ties with the Trump family, including personal time spent at Mar-a-Lago. However, her faith in Trump began to wane as she observed his behavior behind closed doors, particularly his alleged mockery of his own supporters, whom he reportedly referred to as “basement dwellers.”

Criticism of Trump’s Leadership and Character

Grisham did not hold back in her criticism of Trump’s leadership, highlighting his lack of empathy and disregard for truth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. “When people were dying in the ICU, he was mad the cameras weren’t watching him,” she said, underscoring her frustration with his priorities during a national crisis.

One of the most poignant moments in her speech came when she recounted her decision to resign on January 6, 2021, after the Capitol riots. Grisham revealed that she asked then-First Lady Melania Trump to issue a statement condemning the violence, only to be met with a blunt “no.” This refusal prompted her to resign, making her the first senior staffer to do so on that fateful day. “I love my country more than my party,” she declared, drawing applause from the Democratic delegates in attendance.

Endorsement of Kamala Harris and Call for Unity

Grisham concluded her speech by publicly endorsing Kamala Harris, stating, “Harris tells the truth and respects the American people. She has my vote.” She urged Republicans who are disillusioned with Trump and his policies to join her in supporting Harris to prevent Trump from returning to the White House.

Her speech is part of a broader trend at this year’s DNC, where several former Trump officials have stepped forward to express their opposition to him. Among those set to speak are former Trump National Security Adviser Olivia Troye and Adam Kinzinger, both vocal critics of Trump’s actions.

A Reflection on Trump’s Public Persona vs. Private Behavior

Grisham’s speech also highlighted the stark contrast between Trump’s public persona and his true character, as observed by those who worked closely with him. She recalled Trump’s assertion during her time in the administration: “It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie; say it enough, and people will believe you,” illustrating his manipulation of public perception.

The audience’s enthusiastic response to Grisham’s candid remarks signaled significant approval among those at the DNC, affirming her shift away from her previously unwavering support for Trump. Grisham’s public denunciation of Trump marks a critical moment in the ongoing discourse surrounding the 2024 election, as more former allies of Trump come forward to challenge his influence over the Republican Party.
