In a significant political shift, former staffers from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s now-suspended presidential campaign have formed a super PAC to support Donald Trump in the 2024 election. The PAC, called Make America Healthy Again (MAHA), is aimed at rallying Kennedy’s supporters to help Trump secure a victory, particularly in crucial swing states.
A Strategic Move to Unite Supporters
The MAHA PAC was created by about a dozen ex-staffers, many of whom were part of Kennedy’s national field team. Jeff Hutt, a spokesperson for the PAC and Kennedy’s former national field director, said that the group’s mission is to continue the work they began with Kennedy by shifting their efforts toward getting Trump re-elected.
Hutt emphasized that Kennedy’s recent endorsement of Trump gave clear direction to his supporters. Initially, Kennedy suggested that his backers should vote for him only in states where he remained on the ballot. However, in a later message, he urged his supporters across the country to vote for Trump, regardless of their state.
Targeting Swing and Blue States
The MAHA PAC’s primary focus will be on swing states like Virginia and New Hampshire, where Kennedy’s supporters could have a significant impact. Legal challenges are still ongoing to remove Kennedy’s name from the ballot in these battleground states, but the PAC plans to target voters in both swing and solid blue states.
Jared Volz, another former national field director for Kennedy’s campaign, now serves as the president of the PAC. While the group is primarily relying on grassroots efforts, they also hope to raise enough money for media buys in key regions.
Grassroots Efforts and Media Campaigns
The goal of the PAC is not only to engage voters at the grassroots level but also to help Trump win in a landslide. According to Hutt, “This is what we need to do to get Mr. Kennedy over the finish line.” He noted that Kennedy’s supporters are energized and willing to shift their focus toward a Trump victory, viewing it as a way to secure a seat for Kennedy in a potential unity ticket with Trump.
A Close Election and the Potential Impact
Kennedy’s national polling average was around 5% when he suspended his campaign, but even a fraction of his supporters switching to Trump could make a difference in what is shaping up to be a closely contested election. Kennedy stressed the importance of avoiding a disputed election result, saying, “President Trump needs to win in a landslide both in the Electoral College and the popular vote.”
The Make America Healthy Again PAC will file its first financial disclosure report on October 15.
