Clear Confirmation from FBI

FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate unequivocally confirmed that former President Donald Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet during the assassination attempt at his rally on July 13. Abbate asserted, “There is absolutely no doubt in the FBI’s mind whether former President Trump was hit with a bullet and wounded in the ear. No doubt, there never has been,” when questioned by Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.).

Clarification Following Controversy

FBI Director Christopher Wray had previously caused confusion and GOP outrage by suggesting there were “some” questions about whether Trump was hit by a bullet or shrapnel. Although Wray did not dispute that Trump was injured or that the incident was an assassination attempt, his remarks prompted backlash from Trump and his congressional supporters. Trump criticized Wray on Truth Social, and GOP allies called for Wray to clarify his comments.

FBI’s Official Statement

In response to the controversy, the FBI released a statement on Friday stating, “what struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces.” This clarification seemed to ease GOP concerns, as evidenced by Kennedy’s acknowledgment of the issue only more than two hours into the subsequent hearing.

Senator Kennedy’s Inquiry

Sen. Kennedy’s questioning of Abbate also included a satirical series of questions, asking Abbate to confirm that Trump wasn’t struck by a “space laser,” a “murder hornet,” or “Sasquatch,” highlighting the absurdity of any alternative explanations for the incident.

Conclusion

The FBI’s clear and definitive statements have reinforced that Trump was indeed hit by a bullet during the assassination attempt, addressing and resolving any previous ambiguities or concerns.
