Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie took aim at Donald Trump’s recent comments during a New Hampshire rally, where the former president quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin and made divisive remarks about immigrants. Christie, a Republican presidential hopeful, expressed his disapproval during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

Trump’s Remarks and Criticism

At the New Hampshire rally, Trump quoted Putin, suggesting that the indictments against him undermined the U.S.’s democratic standing globally. Additionally, Trump made controversial comments about immigrants, stating they were “poisoning the blood of our country.” Christie criticized Trump’s behavior, describing him as “disgusting” and expressing concern about the former president’s increasing erraticism.

Citing Putin as a Character Witness

Christie particularly condemned Trump’s use of Putin as a character witness, emphasizing Putin’s reputation as a “murderous thug” worldwide. He expressed worry about Trump’s deteriorating state, stating that he is “becoming crazier” and accused him of using divisive language to appeal to Americans facing economic and global conflicts.

Critique of Congressional Endorsements

Christie also directed criticism at members of Congress who have endorsed Trump for his potential 2024 presidential bid. He specifically called out former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for asserting that Trump is still fit to serve as president. Christie argued that endorsing someone who makes inflammatory remarks about immigrants and cites Putin as a character witness is a disservice to the nation.
