Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is reinforcing its team as the 2024 election draws nearer, adding several key figures, including Corey Lewandowski, former campaign manager from Trump’s 2016 run. As Trump faces fundraising challenges and trails Vice President Kamala Harris in swing state polls, the campaign is moving to strengthen its leadership roster.
Trump Campaign Adds Experienced Advisers
Corey Lewandowski, who has remained an informal adviser to Trump since his initial campaign, is now officially rejoining the team. He will advise the senior leadership, aiming to bring his seasoned perspective to the crucial last months of the election. The campaign also welcomes Tim Murtaugh, the communications director from Trump’s 2020 campaign, along with Alex Pfeiffer and Alex Bruesewitz, who were top officials at the Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. super PAC. These additions are not seen as a shakeup but rather a strategic move to bolster the campaign’s leadership.
Taylor Budowich, who previously led MAGA Inc., has also joined the campaign in a senior capacity. These hires come at a time when Trump’s campaign is struggling to find a consistent line of attack against Kamala Harris, a challenge that has concerned some within the Republican Party.
Lewandowski’s Return Amid Controversy
Lewandowski’s return is particularly noteworthy given his past controversies. In 2021, he was removed from a top position in a pro-Trump super PAC after accusations of unwanted sexual advances towards a donor’s wife. Despite this, Trump has maintained loyalty to Lewandowski, who continues to play a role in Trump’s political strategy.
The campaign’s co-managers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, have emphasized that these new hires are not indicative of a change in direction but are intended to reinforce the team as the election approaches. Trump, during a press conference, expressed strong support for Wiles and LaCivita, stating that Lewandowski would serve as a “personal envoy” in some capacity.
Trump Campaign’s Strategy Moving Forward
As the election nears, the Trump campaign is focused on regaining its footing and solidifying its leadership. With the addition of experienced advisers like Lewandowski and Murtaugh, the campaign hopes to refine its strategy and close the gap with Kamala Harris. The final months leading up to the election will be critical for Trump as he seeks to mobilize his base and present a strong challenge to the Harris-Walz ticket.
