Pelosi and Trump’s Pre-Impeachment Phone Call

In her new book, “The Art of Power,” former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reveals details of a 20-minute phone conversation with former President Donald Trump, just before she announced the first impeachment investigation in 2019. According to Pelosi, Trump questioned the investigation’s purpose, defending his actions as appropriate and fair. Pelosi described the conversation as contentious, with Trump repeatedly asserting that his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was “perfect.” Pelosi maintained that the investigation was necessary, highlighting her experience on the House Intelligence Committee.

Reaction to Pelosi’s Account

In response to Pelosi’s revelations, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, dismissed her account, calling Pelosi “a liar and a fraud.” The impeachment investigation stemmed from allegations that Trump pressured Zelensky to investigate his political rivals while withholding U.S. aid. The House impeached Trump in December 2019, but he was acquitted by the Senate in February 2020.

Insights into Pelosi’s Personal Life

Pelosi’s book also details the traumatic aftermath of the violent attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, in October 2022. She describes the uncertainty and fear she felt upon learning of the attack, which left her husband severely injured. The incident had a profound impact on the Pelosi family, with lingering emotional and physical scars.

Reflections on Public Service and Family Impact

Pelosi shares a poignant moment when her youngest daughter, Alexandra, expressed regret over Pelosi’s decision to enter public service. Alexandra lamented the unforeseen dangers and challenges their family faced, particularly in light of the attack on Paul Pelosi.
