Moscow Launches Massive Missile and Drone Attack on Ukraine’s Kyiv and Lviv Regions

Ukrainian officials reported a significant missile and drone assault by Moscow on Sunday, targeting the capital city of Kyiv and the western region of Lviv. Simultaneously, Ukraine claimed to have struck two Russian landing ships and other infrastructure belonging to Russia’s Black Sea fleet in Crimea.

Russian Offensive

According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia unleashed 57 missiles and drones, marking the Kremlin’s third major missile attack in four days and the second targeting Kyiv. Despite the onslaught, Ukraine’s air force claimed to have intercepted a significant number of incoming missiles and drones.

Response and Consequences

U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink condemned Russia’s actions, highlighting the disregard for civilian lives and the violation of international law. The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Serhiy Popko, reported that Russia utilized cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers based in the Engels district of Russia’s Saratov region.

In Lviv, Mayor Andriy Sadovy revealed that approximately 20 missiles and seven Iranian-made drones were fired at critical infrastructure in the region. Additionally, one missile breached Polish airspace, prompting the activation of Polish F-16 fighter jets in response.

International Alert and Readiness

The incursion into Polish airspace underscores the heightened tensions and the potential for regional escalation. Polish armed forces confirmed the violation, emphasizing their state of readiness due to increased Russian military activity.
