Russia’s FSB security service has arrested 11 individuals following a deadly attack at a rock concert in Moscow, which left at least 133 people dead, marking it as the deadliest assault on Russian soil in over a decade.

Increased Casualty Count and National Mourning

The number of injured individuals rose to 154, prompting the country to observe a day of national mourning. Flags flew at half-mast, and mourners brought flowers to the burnt-out remains of the concert hall where the tragic incident occurred.

Arrests and Interrogations

Four men, all from Tajikistan, were detained by the FSB. Videos of their brutal interrogation circulated online. While ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted at Ukrainian involvement, claiming the assailants were heading towards Ukraine.

Denial and Denouncement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vehemently denied involvement, accusing Putin of fabricating allegations to justify escalation. Despite Putin’s insinuations, the FSB detained the gunmen in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine.

Pledge for Justice

Putin promised to identify and punish all involved, vowing to pursue anyone responsible for orchestrating the attack. The assailants, nationals of Tajikistan, are expected to appear in court as a criminal case unfolds against them.

Shock and Grief

The assault has sent shockwaves across Russia, prompting an outpouring of grief and memorials for the victims. It’s reminiscent of past terrorist incidents, including the Nord-Ost siege in 2002, underlining the persistent threat of terrorism in the region.

International Alerts and Cancellations

The US embassy and other Western missions issued alerts about potential attacks on public venues, including concerts. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin canceled all major public events in the capital, with other cities following suit.
