Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) major democracies have expressed their full endorsement and support for the comprehensive ceasefire and hostage release deal for the Gaza conflict, as outlined by U.S. President Joe Biden. The G7 statement, released on Monday, calls on Hamas to accept the deal, which includes an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a substantial and sustained increase in humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza, and a lasting resolution to the crisis that ensures both Israel’s security and the safety of Gazan civilians.

The G7, with Italy holding the rotating presidency for 2024, reiterated its support for a “credible pathway towards peace leading to a two-state solution.” President Biden’s proposed three-phase Israeli ceasefire plan, presented last week, received a positive initial reaction from Hamas.

On Sunday, an aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had accepted the framework deal for ending the Gaza war, although he described it as flawed and requiring further refinement. The G7 statement urged Hamas to accept the deal and called on countries with influence over Hamas to help ensure its acceptance.
