Former national security adviser John Bolton issued a stark warning, stating that if former President Donald Trump secures another term, Russian leaders will be celebrating. Bolton’s comments follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s apparent preference for Trump’s general election opponent, President Joe Biden, describing Biden as “more experienced” and “predictable.”

Russian Disinformation Efforts:

Putin’s recent statements, lauding Biden’s experience, were dismissed by Bolton as a “clear disinformation effort.” Bolton emphasized the Kremlin’s desire to work with any U.S. leader trusted by the American people. However, he argued that Putin’s intentions are strategic, aiming to create an advantageous scenario for Trump.

Trump’s Response:

Trump, in response to Putin’s comments, thanked the Russian President during a South Carolina rally, considering it a “great compliment.” Bolton criticized Trump for being “foolish enough” to view Putin’s words positively, highlighting that if Trump secures reelection, the Kremlin will undoubtedly celebrate.

Concerns over Trump’s Relationship with Putin:

Bolton expressed concern over Trump’s perceived vulnerability to Putin’s influence, stating that Putin sees Trump as an “easy mark.” This concern is compounded by Trump’s earlier remarks, suggesting he would encourage Russia to invade NATO allies failing to meet defense spending mandates.

Unaddressed Issues:

Trump, notably, has yet to address the death of Putin critic Alexei Navalny, a matter that has garnered widespread condemnation of Putin. The former president’s silence on this issue raises questions about his stance on human rights and opposition to Putin’s regime.
