In a recent Quinnipiac University poll, President Joe Biden holds a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump, with 49 percent of registered voters supporting Biden and 45 percent backing Trump in a hypothetical general election matchup.
However, the survey reveals a significant concern among voters about Biden’s age, with 67 percent believing the 81-year-old president is too old to effectively serve another term. In comparison, 57 percent expressed similar concerns about Trump, who is 77. The issue of age has become prominent in both GOP and Democratic presidential primaries.
The poll indicates that only 34 percent of respondents believe Biden has the mental fitness to serve a second term, while 48 percent believe Trump is mentally fit. Both candidates have faced scrutiny over their age and fitness, with Biden forcefully denying questions about his age in a recent press conference, and Trump responding to criticisms by emphasizing his cognitive skills.
In addition to the presidential race, the survey shows that a majority of voters (56 percent) support sending additional military aid to Ukraine, even as it has stalled in Congress. However, opinions are divided on providing further military aid to Israel in the conflict with Hamas, with 48 percent opposing and 44 percent supporting it. The issue of aid to Israel has become contentious, with some lawmakers expressing humanitarian concerns about the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
