Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has once again called on the White House to cease providing unconditioned military aid to Israel, labeling the conflict in Gaza as an “unprecedented crisis.” Sanders expressed deep concern over the humanitarian impact of the war, citing the death toll of over 30,000 people, with two-thirds of them being women and children. He warned of the possibility of hundreds of thousands of children facing starvation.

During an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Sanders asserted that the United States cannot be complicit in the mass slaughter of children and called for a change in policy. He urged the administration to inform Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that any financial assistance would be contingent on allowing humanitarian aid trucks to enter Gaza and address the critical situation.

Sanders emphasized the need for the Biden administration to enforce the Foreign Assistance Act, which prohibits sending aid to countries blocking or restricting the flow of U.S. humanitarian assistance. According to Sanders, Israel’s actions are in violation of this law, and he urged against providing further financial support to what he referred to as “Netanyahu’s war machine.”

Despite his criticism of the administration’s approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict, Sanders maintained his support for President Joe Biden. He highlighted the significant differences between Biden and former President Donald Trump, urging his supporters to back Biden in the upcoming presidential election, emphasizing the potential disastrous consequences of a Trump re-election.

The senator’s stance on the crisis underscores the ongoing debate within the U.S. political landscape regarding the approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict and the humanitarian concerns arising from the conflict in Gaza.
