In a recent address to defense officials, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced plans to escalate strikes on Ukrainian storage facilities housing Western-supplied weapons. Shoigu asserted that Russia’s military operations have nullified any perceived superiority of Western weaponry, claiming initiative along the 1,000 km battle front.
Shoigu’s remarks coincided with the impending approval and delivery of a long-awaited military aid package by the United States to Ukraine. This aid, valued at nearly $61 billion, includes the provision of new long-range ATACMS missile systems, as disclosed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Additionally, U.S. officials have indicated that the aid package encompasses ammunition supplies and interceptors for air defense systems.
In response to perceived threats from the United States and its allies, Shoigu outlined plans to enhance the composition and structure of Russia’s Armed Forces, as well as to increase production of popular weapons and military equipment. Specifically, he emphasized an intent to intensify attacks on logistics centers and storage bases housing Western weaponry.
Shoigu reiterated Russia’s claims of territorial gains, citing the capture of villages such as Pervomaiske, Bohdanivka, and Novomykhailivka. While Ukrainian sources contest the assertion regarding Novomykhailivka, Russian defense officials maintain that their forces have secured the village. The Russian defense ministry released footage purportedly depicting the operation to capture Novomykhailivka, showcasing the seizure of Western-made weapons, including Swedish grenade launchers, American anti-tank Javelins, and NATO electronic warfare systems. Verification of the video’s authenticity was inconclusive, but the location was confirmed as Novomykhailivka based on corroborating evidence.
